Doda, Aug 18: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sandeep Mehta, has suspended a police constable after allegations surfaced of misconduct and assault on a Village Defence Group (VDG) member in the district.
In a statement, police said that strong note was taken of the alleged thrashing incident involving SgCt. Mohd Zia, posted at Police Post Premnagar. “The officer has been placed under suspension with immediate effect and attached to District Police Lines (DPL) pending further proceedings,” the statement read.
A departmental enquiry has been ordered, and a senior officer has been appointed as the enquiry officer. The report has been sought within a fortnight.
Police further said that the conduct of the then Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Thathri, DySP (Probationer) Afeer Jaleel, will also be examined as part of the enquiry. The enquiry officer has been directed to specifically assess his role and submit findings for further action.
Authorities reiterated that the matter remains under active consideration and assured that anyone found guilty of misconduct will face strict legal and departmental action. [KNT]
