Ganderbal, Aug 19: In a shocking turn of events, police in Ganderbal have arrested a girl for murdering her younger sister, whose body was recovered in Shepora area of the district two days ago.
Addressing a press conference, SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal, said the 14-year-old girl’s body was recovered from Shepora, following which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted and a forensic team was called from Srinagar to assist in the probe.
He said it was initially suspected that both sisters had gone missing and might have been kidnapped. “However, during investigation, supported by technical evidence and CCTV footage, the kidnapping claim was not substantiated,” SSP Poswal said.
During interrogation, the elder sister confessed that she had taken her younger sibling to the spot where the incident occurred, the SSP said. “An altercation broke out between them, during which she struck her younger sister with a rod on her head, leading to her death. She later tried to conceal the weapon, which has been recovered,” he added.
Poswal added that all relevant evidence has been collected and submitted to the magistrate, and the accused has been presented before the court.
Meanwhile, Ganderbal Police said the murder case was cracked within hours and the accused— the victim’s elder sister—was arrested after sustained interrogation.
“A case under FIR No. 29/2025 U/S 103(1) BNS has been registered at Police Station Kheerbawani, and the accused has been produced before the court,” a police spokesperson said.
He said the police are committed to ensuring justice in the case and maintaining peace and security in the district.
