Srinagar, Sep 2: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo on Tuesday said that all the religious occasions in the district, from Muharram to Ganesh Chaturthi, are being celebrated with peace and joy, reflecting Srinagar’s spirit of communal harmony.
Speaking at Indra Nagar Srinagar, where he joined the Kashmiri Pandit community in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, DC Akshay Labroo, said it is a matter of great happiness that every festival in Srinagar is being observed with enthusiasm.
“Today, we joined our Kashmiri Pandit brothers and sisters in Ganesh Pooja, and it is heartening to see everyone celebrate with harmony,” he said.
He also highlighted that the recently concluded Amarnath Yatra passed off peacefully, underscoring the administration’s commitment to ensuring security and public order.
On preservation of cultural and religious heritage, the DC said Srinagar is witnessing dedicated efforts to restore heritage sites. “We have schemes under which temples, shrines, churches and other religious places with heritage value are being taken up for restoration. Under the Smart City project too, religious places are being preserved to protect our shared heritage,” he said.
Meanwhile, the DC also shared that the administration is on high alert for the next 15–30 days in view of changing weather conditions. He said advisories are being issued at regular intervals to safeguard the public.
“We are on high alert and people must follow advisories. Yesterday, we cautioned about gusty winds and advised residents to stay away from electric poles and cables. As of now, the water level in the Jhelum and other water bodies is well below the danger mark,” DC Akshay Labroo said.
He also assured that the administration will continue to issue timely weather advisories to ensure public safety.
