Srinagar, Sep 2: Haryana’s Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini on Tuesday announced financial assistance of Rs five crore each to Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-hit regions.
In a post on X, CM Saini, said the Haryana government and people of the state stood with the affected families. “From the Chief Minister Relief Fund, Rs 5 crore each has been sent for Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. This assistance will support relief and rescue operations and help provide timely aid to affected families,” Saini said.
He added that Haryana would continue to provide necessary support if required in the future. “Haryana, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir – together we will overcome this crisis,” the Chief Minister said.
Pertinently, the intermittent heavy rainfall over the past week has caused extensive flooding in parts of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, damaging property, roads and agricultural land and displacing residents.
Several teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state agencies are engaged in rescue and relief operations.
Responding to the announcement, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed gratitude to the Haryana government and CM Saini for extending support. “We thank the Haryana government and CM Saini for contributing 5 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This support will strengthen ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts in Jammu and Kashmir,” Abdullah said.
Officials said flood-affected families are being shifted to safer locations and provided with food and medical supplies.
According to the India Meteorological Department, both Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir received rainfall far above normal levels in August, making it among the wettest months in recent years. (KNO)
