J&K floods: Damaged infrastructure to be rebuilt with stronger specifications, says Dr Jitendra

Jammu, Sep 13: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Saturday assured that all structures damaged in the recent floods across the Jammu region will be rebuilt with stronger specifications to better withstand future calamities.
During his visit to the flood-affected villages of Bajalta and Pargalta in Jammu district, Dr Jitendra Singh assessed the widespread damage caused to homes, bridges, and public utilities by torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides.
“The damaged structures will be rebuilt with improved specifications, taking into account the lessons learned from the recent floods. This will ensure they are resilient enough to withstand such calamities in the future,” Dr Jitendra Singh said while interacting with locals.
Over the past few weeks, Singh has toured extensively across his Udhampur constituency and other affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, from Chisoti in Kishtwar to the Zero Line along the Indo-Pak border in Kathua and Samba, meeting families hit by the disaster.
Reviewing restoration efforts on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway—which remained closed for more than 10 days due to landslides and road cave-ins—the minister emphasized speedy clearance of vital routes and restoration of connectivity.
Accompanied by local MLA Yudhvir Sethi and senior officials of the Union Territory administration, Singh inspected severely hit areas including Bain Bajalta, Tutan Di Khoi, Anthan, Badoon, Khana Shargal, and Chalni under the Jammu East constituency. He directed departments such as Roads and Buildings and Public Health Engineering to expedite repair and rehabilitation works.
Singh also visited Pargalta panchayat, where he took stock of damage to public property, shops, and crops, and assured affected families of government support. He said estimates were being prepared for compensation and pledged uninterrupted efforts to restore essential services. (KINS)
