‘J&K, Ladakh see negative power variation last month’

Srinagar, Sep 13: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has witnessed a negative variation of 19 percent in power availability and 7.5 percent in power requirement in the previous month during peak hours.
According to the official documents showing the anticipated power supply position v/s actual power supply position (Provisional) of Northern Region during the month of August-2025 states that in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh it has anticipated power availability of 2050 MU’s and requirement of 1740 MU’s respectively.
The official figures further reveal that the actual power availability was 1490 MU’s whereas the requirement was 1493 MU’s. It also states that there was a variation of minus 27.3 percent in power availability and minus 14.2 percent in requirement respectively.
It also states that during the peak, NRPC has anticipated that there will be a peak power availability of 3370 Megawatts (MW’s) and power requirement of 3007 MWs.
The documents said that there was a peak variation of minus 19 percent in power availability and minus 7.5 percent in power requirement in the previous month.
NRPC said that there was a negative, significant variation (≥5%) in Actual Power Supply Position(Provisional) vis-à-vis Anticipated figures is observed for the month of August-2025 in terms of Energy Requirement for Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, HP, UTs of J&K and Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP, and Uttarakhand and in terms of Peak Demand similar variation is noted for Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, UTs of J&K and Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.
The committee asked these states and UTs to submit reason for such variations so that the same can be deliberated in the meeting.
