Baramulla, Oct 10: The Coordination Committee Baramulla — an umbrella body representing contractors, labourers, quarry owners, and tipper operators — on Friday evening called off its 20-day-long strike after the government announced the release of royalty payments.
Addressing a press conference, President of the Coordination Committee Baramulla, Riyaz Ahmad Nego, said that their key demands had been accepted by the administration.
“The government has accepted our demands by releasing the pending royalty. From tomorrow onwards, contractors, labourers, quarry owners, and tipper operators will resume their work,” Nego said.
The Coordination Committee expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surindar Chowdhary, and Cabinet Minister Javid Ahmad Dar for their intervention in resolving the issue.
The Committee also thanked Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, the District Minerals Officer, and the concerned Tehsildar for actively taking up the matter with higher authorities.
The strike, which had disrupted construction and developmental activities across Baramulla district for nearly three weeks, was launched to press for the release of pending royalties and streamline the process for mineral transportation.
With the government’s decision, work on various public and private projects is expected to resume from Saturday, bringing relief to thousands of workers and contractors dependent on the sector.
