Jammu, Oct 16: BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday accused the Omar Abdullah-led NC-Congress alliance government of ‘betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir, describing its first year in office as one marked by falsehoods, failures, and deception’.
Tarun Chugh in a statement said that the National Conference leadership, particularly Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, had made “tall promises” during the 2024 Assembly elections but failed to deliver even the most basic commitments.
“They promised 12 free LPG cylinders to poor households, but not a single family has received them. Women continue to struggle with rising gas prices while the government hides behind excuses,” Chugh said.
He added that the government’s assurance of 200 units of free electricity and relief from pending arrears had proven hollow. “Instead of relief, people are facing inflated bills, power cuts, and more hardship,” he remarked.
Highlighting the unemployment crisis, Chugh said the pledge of one lakh jobs and the proposed Youth Employment Generation Act remain unfulfilled. “There is no Act, no jobs, only rhetoric. The youth feel cheated,” he stated.
Chugh also criticised the government’s claim of providing free public transport for women, saying it exists only on paper. “Beyond a few token routes in Srinagar and Jammu, women still pay fares. The promise of empowerment has become a mockery,” he said.
On tourism and agriculture, the BJP leader said that commitments such as granting industry status to tourism and providing MSP-like support for horticulture were never implemented. “Houseboat owners, hoteliers, apple growers, and saffron farmers were given false hope. Their files are gathering dust,” he said.
He further pointed out that promises of free education up to university level, new skill universities, and a medical trust for free healthcare have seen “no progress whatsoever.”
On the sensitive issue of Kashmiri Pandit rehabilitation, Chugh said the government had “no roadmap, no land allocation, and no housing plan,” calling it another betrayal of faith and trust.
“The NC government is busy blaming Delhi for its failures while doing nothing for ordinary people. Jammu and Kashmir needs governance, not gimmicks. The people will not forget this betrayal,” Chugh said. (KINS)
