Time for real solutions

While the winter season is approaching, the power supply has remained yet again the major concern for the people across the Valley, expecting a good supply this season. Despite repeated assurances, the reality remains the same, i.e. frequent outages, often during peak hours when electricity is needed the most. Officials continue to cite “overloading” and “technical issues” as reasons, but these explanations are no longer enough for the people, who face these challenges year after year. Electricity during winter is essential for heating, lighting and daily life. Power cuts not only cause discomfort but also pose risks, especially for the elderly, children and those with medical needs. In this digital and energy-dependent age, a consistent power supply should be a basic right. The pattern of increased demand during winter is well-known. One question as to why are the necessary arrangements not made in advance? Has there been enough investment in upgrading transformers, maintaining grids, and managing load effectively? These are the questions that need honest answers. It is time for the authorities to move from temporary fixes to long-term solutions. The public deserves better planning, better infrastructure, and better accountability. No more excuses but only results. This winter, people expect not just warmth in their homes, but reliability from those in charge of ensuring power supply. The responsibility lies with the system to deliver, not with citizens to endure. Let this be the year when action replaces apology and when the lights stay on, not just in homes, but in the governance that powers them.
