Save society from crime

The growing drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir has become one of the gravest threats to peace, progress and public safety in the region. Once known for its natural beauty and cultural harmony, J&K is now grappling with an alarming rise in drug addiction, especially among the youth. What began as isolated incidents has now turned into a social crisis that demands urgent and united action. The link between drug abuse and crime in J&K is deeply concerning. Reports indicate a surge in thefts, domestic violence, and even organized criminal activities connected to drug trafficking. Addiction not only destroys individuals but also destabilizes families and communities. Many young people, lured by unemployment and frustration, fall prey to this deadly trap. Behind every addict lies a shattered family and a disrupted future-proof that the drug problem is not just a personal tragedy but a societal disaster. At this juncture, strong and coordinated efforts are essential. Law enforcement agencies must tighten their grip on drug trafficking networks operating across borders, particularly along the Line of Control and the international border where smuggling routes are active. Strict action against peddlers, along with better coordination between police, excise, and intelligence departments, is vital. However, policing alone cannot end this menace. Schools, colleges, and community leaders must take the lead in spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Rehabilitation centres need to be strengthened to help addicts recover with dignity. Religious and social organizations can play a key role in guiding youth toward constructive living. The time to act is now. Curbing the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir is not just about saving lives but about safeguarding the region’s future, restoring peace and preventing the crimes that threaten to erode its social fabric.
