Leh, Apr 23: Amid the steep rise in COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the overall recovery rate has declined by nine per cent in the past nine days, reducing the graph from 92 to 83 per cent.
According to the figures available, the recovery rate of Ladakh region has dropped by 9 per cent between 13 to 22 April in the ensuing month with Leh dropping by 10 percent while Kargil by 2 per cent only.
The figures reveal that of the total 8859 positive cases in Leh 7987 people had recovered from the virus taking the recovery rate to 91 per cent on April 13 while Kargil on the same day had 2101 recovered cases of the total 2211 patients with 96 per cent recovery rate. However, the overall recovery rate was 92 per cent (10088 recovered patients).
It reveals that the region on April 13 had a total of 851 active positive cases of which 785 were in Leh and 66 in Kargil while 131 had died of the virus.
“The recovery rate started to reduce since April 14 when the actual graph came down to 90 per cent and Leh dropped by 3 per cent, taking it down to 88 per cent only while Kargil managed to maintain the recovery rate by 95 per cent,” the figures reveal.
“With a regular spike in the cases, the region continued to witness a dip in the recovery rate with the overall rate coming down to 83 per cent only while Kargil has 94 per cent but Leh continues to witness a drop in the recovery rate and rise in positive cases having a total of 81 per cent recovery rate as on April 22,” the figures reveal.
The figures revealed that a total of 10761 positive patients have recovered in the region maintaining the toll at 83 per cent in the entire region.
Notably, as a precautionary measure, the authorities in Ladakh Union Territory have ordered the closure of all the educational institutions including the colleges and universities to contain the further spread of the virus.
District Magistrates of the twin districts have earlier stated that the majority of the cases in both the districts are non-locals who have arrived in the region as laborers and tourists.
Pertinently, Kargil administration with the reopening of Zojila Pass has made negative RTPCR test mandatory for all the non-locals and set up various screening-cum-testing points to ensure no one enters the district without getting tested.
