While the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been carrying several good initiatives in the city for the betterment of the people and improving the standard in the vicinities, it appears to have miserably failed in curbing the menace of canines that are making commuting during the early morning hours as well in the evening difficult. As per figures, there also has been an increase in the cases of dog bites in the city hospitals and that should be enough to wake the department up and carry out the necessary measures in this regard so that people whose job demands commuting in the early hours including those who reach their homes late heave a sigh of relief. The issue of canines has been very dangerous particularly for the children who have been the worst victims in the city and elsewhere. Therefore immediate measures should be taken to take care of the menace of the dogs. While the SMC has been doing amazingly well in managing the city garbage it should also take care of the garbage spots which turn out to be breeding ground for the canines. It has turned out that the fewer the garbage collection spots, the less is the menace of the canines. While the SMC has worked effectively in minimizing the garbage spots in the city, it should carry out the same work in other areas of Srinagar city that are complaining about the dog-menace so that the same is brought under control.
