Shopian, Nov 6: A wild brown bear that had been creating panic among locals in the Gatipora area of Shopian was successfully captured by the Wildlife Department on Thursday.
Officials said the animal had been sighted near residential areas, prompting locals to alert the control room. Acting swiftly on the information, a team of wildlife personnel rushed to the spot and managed to tranquilize and capture the bear safely.
Control Room Incharge, Mudasir Ahmad, told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the bear was captured after careful tracking and would be released back into its natural habitat following a thorough medical examination.
Locals appreciated the timely response of the Wildlife Department, saying that the quick action helped avert any untoward incident. [KNT]
