New Delhi, Nov 10: At least eight people were killed and 24 others injured in car blast that rocked the area near Red Fort in the national capital on Monday evening.
According to initial reports, the triggering panic among locals and tourists in the busy vicinity. The blast damaged several vehicles and nearby shops, while thick plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the spot.
Rescue teams and fire tenders rushed to the area immediately after the explosions. The injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals.
Senior officials from Delhi Police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and forensic experts have reached the site and begun investigations to ascertain the nature of the blasts. The entire area has been cordoned off, and security has been heightened across the city.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation after a blast near the Red Fort here on Monday evening claimed at least eight lives, and spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah, government sources said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Delhi police chief and the director of the Intelligence Bureau to take stock of the situation following a blast near the Red Fort that has so far claimed eight lives, sources said.
Shah also directed the chiefs of the National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA) and forensic sciences to send expert teams to the blast site to assist the probe and collect evidence.
The home minister spoke to the Delhi Police commissioner, the director of the Intelligence Bureau and the Union home secretary to take stock of the situation following the blast, sources said.
