Issues on-spot directions for immediate redressal of grievances

Srinagar, Nov 12: In a significant step towards addressing the long-pending concerns of the Transport fraternity, Minister for Transport, FCS&CA, Youth Services and Sports, IT, Satish Sharma Wednesday convened a detailed meeting with the representatives of Western Bus Union.
The delegation, led by the President of the Association, apprised the Minister of various operational and administrative challenges being faced by transporters across different routes and districts of the region.
During the deliberations, the Union representatives raised several important issues, including streamlining of permit renewals, rationalization of passenger fare structures, condition of transport infrastructure, welfare of drivers and conductors, and simplification of departmental procedures.
The Minister gave a patient and sympathetic hearing to the concerns and assured the delegation that the government is fully committed to strengthen the transport ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir through transparent and responsive governance.
Satish Sharma, while emphasizing the critical role of the transport sector in sustaining public mobility and economic connectivity, said that the government views the transporters as essential partners in the developmental process. He directed the concerned officers of the Transport Department to take immediate action on the issues raised and ensure time-bound redressal of all genuine grievances.
He also instructed the officials to maintain regular coordination with the Union representatives to prevent recurrence of avoidable delays or procedural hurdles.
The Minister reiterated that under the vision of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Transport Department is working to create a more efficient, safe, and citizen-friendly public transport system across the Jammu and Kashmir . He underlined the importance of adopting digital systems and modern regulatory practices to improve service delivery and enhance transparency.
The members of the Western Bus Union expressed their gratitude to the Minister for intervention and proactive approach in resolving their concerns. They acknowledged the responsiveness shown by the Government to prioritize the welfare of transporters and commuters alike.
