Bandipora, Nov 21: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, conducted an extensive tour of Bandipora Tehsil Friday to review the progress of key developmental projects and inspected major educational and agricultural institutions.
The tour commenced with a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing works at the Dardpora Goat Farm. The DC reviewed multiple infrastructure components, including the non-gazetted residential quarters (two-storey building), the ET Lab, the gazetted residential quarter, and two goat/sheep sheds currently under construction. She directed the executing agencies to maintain quality standards and ensure timely completion of all facilities.
Appreciating the efforts of the Sheep Husbandry Department, the DC commended its initiatives aimed at supporting the farming community and urged the department to continue its committed work toward enhancing livelihood opportunities in the region.
Later, the DC visited Government Degree College (GDC) Bandipora to assess progress on the hostel block, library, meditation centre, and prefabricated huts. Interacting with college officials, she stressed the need to strengthen academic and residential infrastructure to further improve the learning environment for students.
At the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora, the DC reviewed ongoing research projects, farmer outreach activities, and technological interventions being implemented across the district. She appreciated the diverse initiatives of KVK Bandipora-1 aimed at improving agricultural productivity and farmer welfare.
During her visit to the KVK farm, scientists briefed the DC on innovative cultivation techniques, value-addition prospects, and livelihood opportunities associated with lotus stem production. Various farm technologies and products developed by the centre were showcased, reflecting KVK’s focus on promoting sustainable and modern agricultural practices.
The DC also inspected the development of the Fruit and Vegetable Market at Potushay Bandipora, an important infrastructure project designed to strengthen market linkages for local produce. The project, estimated at Rs 9.25 crore with an allotted cost of Rs 7.87 crore, commenced on 23 October 2024. The DC reviewed the progress achieved during the current working season and emphasised timely completion within the stipulated timeframe.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by the District Agriculture Officer Bandipora, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Bandipora, ExEn R&B Bandipora, Head KVK Bandipora-1, and other concerned officers.
