Srinagar, Nov 22: The security situation in Srinagar has improved significantly, and authorities have put comprehensive measures in place to maintain peace, CRPF Inspector General (IG) Srinagar Sector Pawan Kumar Sharma said on Saturday, citing strong coordination among security agencies.
Responding to questions on the overall security scenario, Sharma said that the CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army and the civil administration are working jointly to ensure stability in the region.
“Every possible security measure has been taken in Srinagar and other areas,” he said, adding that CRPF troops are deployed across the city and adjoining districts, functioning effectively in coordination with other forces.
Sharma was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of a cricket tournament organised by the CRPF. He said the event has been held annually for the past three years, with teams from Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal participating. This year, 123 nominations were received, from which 16 teams were selected through a draw.
“The aim is to bring maximum youth into sports. This year, teams are required to include players below 19 and 23 years of age. There is tremendous interest in cricket in Kashmir, and people participate with great enthusiasm. Through cricket, we want to connect with the youth and help maintain peace,” he said.
Asked whether such events help mainstream the youth, Sharma said they have strengthened public support for the forces. He noted that the CRPF has been operating in the region for 35 years and that “everyone is doing a good job.” (KINS)
