Srinagar, Nov 24: With barely over a month left for 2025 to end, the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department on Monday said it has completed over 141 kilometres of macadamisation work across Srinagar, as part of its pre-winter road improvement campaign.
According to officials, the South Circle Srinagar has achieved 80.76 km of blacktopping this season, covering major divisions including Rajbagh, Dalgate, Nowgam, Sanat Nagar, Pantha Chowk, Harwan and Dara.
“The works were carried out under multiple schemes and focused on ‘restoration of damaged corridors, pothole rehabilitation and structural strengthening’ to ensure road durability through the winter,” a senior R&B official said.
He said the North Circle Srinagar completed 60.5 km of macadamisation, largely in Khanyar, Safa Kadal, Hazratbal and the downtown belt, where traffic volume remains consistently high.
The official added that the works have helped ease congestion and improve connectivity in densely populated and commercial areas.
“The department has prioritised critical stretches in both circles to ensure smoother movement and better safety for commuters,” the official said, adding that the coordinated effort aims to revitalise Srinagar’s road network before the winter season.
Moreover, the R&B Department said the current season’s drive reflects a push toward improving urban mobility and enhancing road resilience, as part of broader infrastructure upgrades being taken up across the city.
