Srinagar, Dec 5: Political parties and student bodies on Friday urged the Jammu & Kashmir Government to approve the age-relaxation proposal for the Jammu & Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination (JKAS).
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to approve the government’s proposal to increase the upper age limit for JKAS.
PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra said that granting approval before the examination would allow candidates to appear without uncertainty.
Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone criticized the administration’s handling of the issue, saying the delay was creating confusion and affecting candidates’ preparation.
He claimed that the file regarding age relaxation was reportedly moving between offices without a final decision, and urged the government to issue a clear statement. Lone highlighted that the average upper age limit for All India open merit candidates is 38 years, while in Jammu & Kashmir it remains capped at 32 years.
The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) also expressed concern over the prolonged uncertainty. National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said repeated assurances, including from the Chief Minister’s office, had failed to resolve the matter, leaving aspirants anxious despite years of preparation.
The JKAS preliminary examination is scheduled for December 7, and candidates have called for a timely decision on the age-relaxation proposal to ensure their participation without legal or administrative obstacles.
