India’s Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been officially confirmed as the host city for the Commonwealth Games 2030 after being approved from the Commonwealth Sport membership at the General Assembly in Glasgow. Ahmedabad, the vibrant city in Gujarat will now mark a historic moment for India. This is a huge opportunity for the city, bringing with it numerous benefits and infrastructure upgrades.
This is a moment of pride for India and Gujarat. The constant encouragement and vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi in strengthening India’s sporting culture, the tireless efforts of Hon’ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the commitment of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi have together guided India’s continuous progress in sports.
Ahmedabad is making history! The city has been officially confirmed as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, a momentous occasion for India. This prestigious event will not only showcase Ahmedabad’s world-class infrastructure but also highlight India’s rich cultural heritage and sporting prowess. As a World Heritage City, Ahmedabad is already renowned for its unique blend of traditional and modern architecture, vibrant culture, and stunning landmarks like the Jama Masjid and the Sabarmati Ashram. Hosting the Commonwealth Games will further cement its position as a premier destination for international events.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviyahas rightly stated that the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad will showcase India’s development journey and its commitment to using sports as an instrument of national progress. He further added that this milestone will strengthen the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 and further enhance India’s ability to lead the world in hosting impactful, inclusive and sustainable sporting events.
According to Dr Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, the official selection of Ahmedabad as the host city of the 2030 Commonwealth Games is a defining moment for India’s Commonwealth Movement and as the world’s most populous country, India will bring grandeur, youth, ambition, rich culture and strong sportsmanship to the centenary Games.
This prestigious event is expected to bring numerous benefits to the city and the state. Upgraded roads, enhanced public transportation, smart mobility systems, and urban renewal projects will transform Ahmedabad’s landscape. The event will attract visitors, boosting hotel and hospitality sector growth, and showcasing Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage. Opportunities will also emerge in construction, hospitality, event management, security, logistics, and tourism sectors. Hotels, restaurants, transport operators, shops, and service providers will benefit from the influx of visitors. State-of-the-art venues like Narendra Modi Stadium, Aquatics Centre, and football stadiums will be developed or upgraded. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave, a 236-acre sports complex, is already under construction and will serve as the central hub for the games. Hosting the Commonwealth Games will promote Ahmedabad and Gujarat globally, highlighting India’s sporting and tourism potential.
The games will focus on sustainability, with plans for eco-friendly operations and post-event reuse of infrastructure. The event is also seen as a stepping stone for Ahmedabad’s bid for the 2036 Olympic Games. The games are expected to bring numerous benefits to the city, including upgraded infrastructure, increased tourism, and job creation. The event will also provide a platform for India to showcase its sporting talent and promote youth engagement in sports.
