Srinagar, Dec 22: Students of the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Monday undertook an educational visit to the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) to gain practical exposure to communication and media management.
Senior officers of DIPR, including Joint Director Information Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari; Deputy Director Kashmir, Mohd. Rafiq, Culture Officer, Burhan Hussain, and Information Officer, Maheer Thakur interacted with the students and provided detailed briefings on the department’s core sections. The officers familiarised the students with the role of DIPR, its organisational hierarchy, human resource structure, and the functioning of various sections, including the audio-visual and new media wings.
Addressing the students, the Culture Officer Kashmir, highlighted diverse career avenues such as public relations, corporate communication and graphic designing, and encouraged them to proactively explore emerging opportunities in the evolving media landscape.
The Information Officer briefed the students about the functioning of the Social Media Cell, which disseminates information related to government policies, programmes, achievements and daily activities through platforms such as Facebook, X, YouTube and Instagram. He also highlighted the designing and publicity work undertaken by the department.
As part of the exposure visit, the students also visited the Divisional Newsroom at the office of the Joint Director Information, Kashmir and gained practical insights into how news inputs are received, verified, edited and disseminated to print, electronic and digital media on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, the students toured the Advertisement Verification Section, Audio-Visual Unit, recording studio, and the editing room, gaining firsthand insight into content production and verification processes.
The visit provided a valuable learning experience to the students, enabling them to understand the role of the Information Department in public communication and media coordination, while complementing their academic learning with practical exposure.
