Srinagar, Dec 30: Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Faz Lul Haseeb Tuesday said that all necessary arrangements have been completed to effectively deal with snowfall and related challenges in Srinagar.
The Commissioner said extensive pre-snowfall preparations have been undertaken by the civic body to ensure uninterrupted civic services during the winter season. He said special focus has been laid on preventing waterlogging in low-lying and vulnerable areas, adding that dewatering stations across the city have been kept active and fully operational to address any emergent situation promptly.
Haseeb said the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has also reviewed winter preparedness of essential infrastructure, including drainage systems and response teams, to minimize inconvenience to locals during snowfall and rain-related events.
Highlighting the issue of street lighting, the Commissioner said Srinagar has a high requirement for functional street lights, particularly during the winter months when daylight hours are limited. He assured that all defunct street lights across the city will be restored in a phased manner and appealed to the public to report non-functional lights and other civic grievances directly to the SMC for timely redressal.
On the issue of stray dog menace, the Commissioner said the matter is being addressed strictly in accordance with the directions and guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India. He said nodal officers have been nominated to oversee the issue at various levels and ensure coordinated action.
He further said the Animal Birth Control program is currently underway and will be intensified to curb the dog menace in a humane and lawful manner, in line with prescribed norms. [KNT]
