Srinagar, Dec 31: Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take urgent and effective steps to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiris living and working in different states outside Jammu and Kashmir.
In his appeal, the MP expressed concern over incidents of harassment, intimidation and discrimination faced by members of the Kashmiri community in various parts of the country. He urged the Union Home Minister to issue clear and binding directions to all state governments and law enforcement agencies to prevent any such incidents and to take swift action wherever complaints arise.
Mian Altaf Ahmad stressed that Kashmiris residing outside the Union Territory contribute positively to society through education, employment and business, and must be allowed to live with dignity and a sense of security. He said the responsibility lies with the Centre to ensure that constitutional guarantees of safety and equality are upheld uniformly across the country.
The MP further called for reassurance measures aimed at restoring confidence among Kashmiri students, workers and professionals, stating that fear and uncertainty should not be allowed to disrupt their lives or livelihoods.
He said proactive steps by the Ministry of Home Affairs would send a strong message that the safety and dignity of every citizen, including Kashmiris living outside their home region, remains a national priority. [KNT]
