Srinagar, Dec 31: The budget session of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is likely to be held in two parts- the first before the holy month of Ramadhan and the second after Eid-ul-Fitr, sources said.
Sources said that the NC-led government is considering holding the budget session in two phases.
“If all goes as per plan, the first part of the session will be held before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan. With the commencement of Ramadhan, the Assembly will go on a month-long recess, after which the session will resume following Eid-ul-Fitr,” sources disclosed, adding that the government is currently contemplating the timetable along these lines.
Sources privy to the development said the government is seriously considering recommending convening the session from the first week of February 2026.
“As per the proposal being discussed, the Assembly would go for a month-long recess from February 18 or 19. The session will then resume after Eid-ul-Fitr,” they said.
According to sources, the issue is likely to be decided in the next cabinet meeting, which will be held after the return of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from abroad.
In that meeting, the cabinet is expected to make a recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor for convening the Assembly to hold the budget session.
It is worthwhile to mention that the Finance Department had started preparations for the 2026–27 budget in October 2025 by asking departments to submit budget estimates for the next fiscal year and revised estimates for the current fiscal.
The Finance Department has also completed budget discussions with all departments.
