Srinagar, Jan 1: Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has decided to shelve the proposal of JKPDD seeking nod to charge an extra 20 percent charge on electricity consumption during morning and evening hours in the UT.
JERC said that the petitioners (JPDCL and KPDCL) had proposed to modify the existing Time of Day (TOD) tariff with certain modifications.
JERC in an official communique has said it has reviewed the tariff proposal submitted by JPDCL and KPDCL.
“The Commission noticed that a letter was issued by the Director Finance JKPDD, about the Government’s decision to continue the present tariff that is for FY 2024-25 approved tariff is also applicable for FY 2025-26, however for the HT Power Intensive Units category should not be given subsidy on power tariff as their substantial power requirement often necessitates procurement of power on higher rates,” it reads.
“The Commission has decided to continue the existing tariff without any change for FY 2025-26 except the HT Power Intensive Units category of consumers,” JERC said.
It also said that for HT Power Intensive Units category of consumers, the energy charge has been revised as submitted by the Petitioners, without any change in the demand charges.
Pertinently, on November-20 it was reported that the Power Development Department (PDD) has proposed an extra 20 percent charge on electricity consumption during morning and evening hours in the Valley.
The Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) had sought approval from JERC to impose a 20 percent surcharge on all categories of consumers except for the agriculture sector during peak hours, when demand is at its highest due to the bone‑chilling cold in the Valley.
According to a petition that was filed before the JERC for J&K and Ladakh, KPDCL had proposed the surcharge for different consumer categories, including domestic households.
