Srinagar, Jan 2: The Sub Divisional Magistrate Kokernag has imposed a ban on trekking, camping, hiking and similar outdoor activities in select high altitude and forested areas of Kokernag subdivision, citing security and public safety concerns.
According to an official order issued by Sub Divisional Magistrate Prince Kumar, inputs were received from police and security agencies regarding security issues in certain areas under the jurisdiction of Kokernag. The order states that recent incidents of individuals attempting to cross police check points during late night hours have raised serious concerns related to public safety.
The order prohibits trekking, camping, hiking and other outdoor pursuits in the areas of Margan Top, Chouhar Nag and Sinthan Top with immediate effect. It further states that unrestricted movement in these areas is likely to adversely affect public safety and security.
The Station House Officer Larnoo has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the order and regulate movement at all naka and check points. The general public has been asked to strictly comply with the directions, failing which action will be taken as per law.
The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 and will remain in force for a period of two months from the date of issuance, unless withdrawn earlier or extended as per law. [KNT]
