BJP to play positive, proactive opposition role in Assembly: Randhawa

Jammu, Feb 2: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vikram Randhawa on Monday said that the establishment of a National Law University is not a contentious issue and can be set up in Jammu, while also leaving scope for a similar institution in Kashmir if the government shows intent.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the start of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session, Randhawa said the issue should not be politicised and must be viewed in a broader developmental perspective. He said that if the government is serious about strengthening legal education infrastructure, it has the capacity to establish institutions in both regions.
“The National Law University is not an issue at all. It can be set up in Jammu and if the government is interested, it can also be set up in Kashmir,” Randhawa said while responding to questions from the media.
The BJP MLA also asserted that his party would play a constructive role during the Assembly proceedings. He said the BJP would act as a positive and proactive opposition, raising public issues and holding the government accountable while ensuring smooth conduct of legislative business.
Randhawa said that opposition does not mean disruption and stressed that meaningful debate and issue-based interventions would remain the party’s priority during the session.
The Assembly session is expected to witness discussions on key administrative, developmental, and political matters concerning Jammu and Kashmir, with opposition parties outlining their stance on governance and policy decisions. [KNT]
