Jammu, Feb 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday that the business rules of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir will be corrected in the next few days.
Winding up the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, the CM said he is confident that the Transaction of Business of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir Rules will be corrected in the next couple of days. “Many issues get stuck due to confusion in business rules,” he said.
The CM said that the cabinet’s recommendation on reservation has been sent by the Lieutenant Governor to the Union Home Ministry for further reference.
“Those who took pride in holding protests outside my house-let them go and raise a slogan outside the residence of the Home Minister. I want to tell them: at least submit a memorandum to the Home Minister during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
The CM remarked that it is easy to point fingers at the government, but they have done whatever was possible. “We have done our work. The issue is now with the Government of India. It has to be cleared by the Government of India. We will play our role. Those who expressed concern here should also play their role,” he said.
He said that the government has fulfilled the promise made to the people regarding reservation.
“We have done whatever was possible. We fulfilled our promise. We assured the people that the cabinet subcommittee report on reservation would be completed within six months. The subcommittee, headed by Sakeena Itoo, completed its report within the timeframe. The report was sent to the government, which examined it. After examination, the government prepared a cabinet memorandum. The Council of Ministers discussed and approved it, and then sent it to the Lieutenant Governor. The LG has forwarded it to the Home Ministry for further reference,” he said.
He added that nobody was talking about reservation until the National Conference incorporated it into its manifesto.
“Many members expressed concern over reservation. Nobody was talking about it until the National Conference included it in its manifesto. Their tongues were tied on the issue of reservation. I remember during the Parliament elections, PDP members were told not to speak about reservation because their President was contesting from Rajouri and Poonch and wanted votes there,” he said.
The cabinet has recommended a 10 percent increase in the open category by reducing 10 percent overall, including a proposed reduction of seven percent in the Economically Weaker Sections quota. (KNO)
