Bandipora, Oct 7: In a major boost to blood banks in Kashmir, the Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) has approved the license for blood bank at the district Hospital Bandipora, officials said on Thursday.
“We got a formal ‘Registration & License Certificate’ from the authority that would remain valid till September 2026,” officials said.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Bandipora, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad told KNO that the people of the district will now be able to breathe a sigh of relief as patients were facing a lot of difficulties here.
“As you know, Bandipora is very far from Srinagar. When a patient was being shifted from here to Srinagar hospital, it was a journey of two hours. We were having a lot of trouble keeping this issue in mind,” he said.
Mushtaq said that the hospital has now got the license and the infrastructure for the blood bank is already available here while all machines for the same have been installed by the world bank.
Ahmad said the blood bank is about to be activated and it will function as a parental blood bank because it can also donate blood to sub hospitals of the district like Gurez and Sumbal.
“In the future, blood donation camps will be held here and blood will always be available here for the needy patients,” he said.
Notably, around 1200 minor and major surgeries are being conducted in the district per year.
As already reported, patients were facing all sorts of difficulties without a blood bank at the District Hospital Bandipora as they were forced to run from pillar to post to find blood and plasma donors.
