Jammu, Feb 7: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded major public health gains, achieving key Sustainable Development Goal targets well ahead of schedule, the government has said.
According to official data, the Union Territory’s Neonatal Mortality Rate has declined to a single digit at 9.8, while the Infant Mortality Rate has fallen to 14.0, reflecting sustained improvements in maternal and child healthcare services.
The sex ratio at birth has also shown significant improvement, rising from 923 to 976, indicating positive demographic trends. The government said the percentage of fully immunised children against vaccine-preventable diseases has reached 100 percent, while institutional deliveries now account for 99.7 percent of all births, as per Health Management Information System data.
Life expectancy at birth in Jammu and Kashmir has increased to 74.3 years, placing the Union Territory among the top performers nationally, after Kerala and Delhi.
Officials said these indicators highlight strengthened healthcare delivery, expanded immunisation coverage and improved access to institutional health services across Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
