Srinagar, Oct 7: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah Thursday said that the escalation of militancy and killings are worrisome. He asked Government of India to re-assess its Kashmir policy.
While talking to a New Delhi based TV Channel, Dr Farooq Abdullah said that the way killings are taking place, it seems Kashmir is going back to 1990’s.
In response to a question, Farooq Abdullah said that instead of claiming that everything is going well and is fine in Kashmir, Government of India should re-assess its Kashmir policy.
Abdullah was reacting over the killing of two teachers who were shot dead in Srinagar on Thursday morning.
He said it is high time for New Delhi to see why killings are taking place in Kashmir.
While responding to a question, Farooq Abdullah said that Home Minister is claiming that everything is fine after the abrogation of Article 370. “Is this fine. My friends in minority community are scared. Political leaders are scared. New Delhi must wake up,” he said.
He asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Kashmir and offer personal reassurances of safety to the residents.
He said Centre is saying one something while the ground reality in Kashmir is different.
While questioning the intentions of New Delhi towards Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah said that despite promises that political leaders will be released from jails, they are still locked-up. (KNT)
