Pulwama, Oct 8: Even after a decade, the water supply scheme in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is functioning without filtration plants compelling locals to drink contaminated water.
The residents of Rakh, ZahidBagh and Darbagh villages in Pulwama said that the Bon Rakh-Zahid Bagh water supply scheme which was made functional some ten years before is functioning without a filtration plant since then.
They said that in the absence of a filtration plant, water from NallahTongri is directly being supplied to them which is highly contaminated.
Aabid Hussain, a local resident, said that despite the scheme being started a decade ago, it still has no filtration plant.
He said that since last 10 years, they are forced to drink contaminated water of the Nallah Tongri
Locals said that they have taken up the issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
They said that despite the scheme being started a decade before, around one hundred households in Darbagh and Zahid Bagh are yet to be connected with the pipeline.
Locals requested authorities to install a filtration plant there and make arrangements before onset of winter so that locals can get potable water.
Meanwhile, Concerned Assistant Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering Nusrat said that she has already written to the mechanical wing of the department for installing a filtration plant at Bon Rakh-Zahid Bagh scheme.
She said that the pending households will be covered under the Jal Jeevan mission very soon.
