Srinagar, Mar 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday issued a public appeal urging citizens to maintain peace and exercise restraint in view of the recent developments in the Middle East.
In a statement, the police said that while they respect the right of citizens to express themselves peacefully through lawful means, incidents of rioting, stone-pelting, clashes, and disruption of public order at certain places are unacceptable.
The police cautioned that violence, damage to public and private property, and confrontation with security forces often result in injuries, loss of life, imposition of restrictions, closure of educational institutions, and hardships for families, traders, students, and daily wagers.
Appealing to all sections of society to remain calm, the statement urged people to refrain from violence and avoid falling prey to provocation.
The police also made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against instigators and miscreants involved in unlawful activities.
Reaffirming their commitment, authorities said they remain dedicated to upholding the rule of law and ensuring protection of life and property across the Union Territory. (KINS)
