The fresh directives regarding the submission of detailed reports on developmental projects related to roads, bridges and parking areas reflects a timely and necessary step towards improving infrastructure planning in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The directions were passed by the Divisional Commissioner to different departments while he was chairing a meeting to review finalization of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for parking sites, roads and bridges, besides identifying black spots to ensure smooth traffic movement and decongestion of Srinagar. Rapid urbanisation and the steady increase in vehicular traffic have placed immense pressure on existing infrastructure, making coordinated planning more important than ever. By seeking information on approved works, proposals under submission, and new project ideas, the administration appears to be aiming for a comprehensive review of ongoing and future development. Such an exercise is crucial for identifying gaps, avoiding duplication of efforts, and ensuring that projects are prioritised based on urgency and public need. Roads, bridges and parking facilities are essential components of urban mobility, and their development must be guided by long-term planning rather than ad-hoc decisions.
