Udhampur, Apr 22: Union Minister and local MP Dr Jitendra Singh on Wednesday visited the Associated Hospital at Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur and directed doctors to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured, while describing the loss of lives in the Udhampur bus tragedy as “deeply painful”.
An official said that the Minister spent nearly an hour at the hospital, personally enquiring about the condition of each survivor admitted there.
He instructed the hospital administration to leave no stone unturned in providing specialised care to the critically injured, the official said.
“All necessary resources, including funds and medical expertise, will be made available for the speedy recovery of the victims. The central and state governments stand shoulder to shoulder with the affected families in this hour of grief,” Dr Jitendra Singh told officials.
He also announced that the injured would be shifted to higher medical facilities in Jammu, if required, and assured that the district administration has been put on high alert to coordinate relief efforts, the officials added.
Notably, 21 passengers, including a 17-year-old girl and seven women, were killed while over 40 others were injured in the accident on Monday morning at Kagort village along the Ramnagar-Udhampur route. The bus (registration number JK14D-2121), carrying passengers from Ramnagar to Udhampur, met with the accident around 9:50 AM after a tyre of the overspeeding vehicle burst, they said, adding that the bus plunged nearly 100 metres down a hillside.
