Srinagar, Apr 29: The weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to improve slightly on April 30 with partly cloudy skies and isolated spells of light rain, while another wet spell is likely between May 3 and 5, the Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience largely dry conditions on May 1 and 2, although brief, isolated showers cannot be ruled out in some areas.
However, the MeT department has forecast a fresh spell of generally cloudy weather accompanied by light rain and thundershowers at scattered to many places between May 3 and 5.
From May 6 to 9, the region is expected to remain mostly dry, with chances of brief and isolated showers at a few locations.
Meanwhile, as per the latest weather data recorded on April 29, daytime temperatures remained below normal across most parts of the Kashmir Valley, while humidity levels stayed relatively high.
In Srinagar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 23.1°C, which was 1.9°C below normal, while the minimum settled at 11.7°C. Qazigund, Pahalgam, Kupwara and other stations in south and north Kashmir also recorded below-normal day temperatures.
Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, recorded a maximum temperature of 13.8°C, while Pahalgam registered 20.2°C during the day.
In the Jammu division, temperatures also remained mostly below normal. Jammu city recorded a maximum of 35.7°C, which was 3.1°C below normal, while Kathua and Samba reported highs above 33°C.
Light rainfall activity was recorded at a few stations, including Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri, Reasi, Budgam and Anantnag, while most other stations remained dry during the 24-hour period.
The MeT department said that the prevailing weather pattern is likely to bring temporary relief from heat in parts of the Union Territory, though intermittent rainfall activity is expected to continue in phases over the coming days.
It also issued an advisory asking farmers to suspend agricultural operations on April 28 and 29 in view of the possibility of rainfall, gusty winds and isolated hailstorm activity in some areas. (KNO)
