Srinagar, Oct 16: Chokibal Hachmarg village in district Kupwara is without electricity for the last two months.
Locals alleged that the Power Development Department has failed to fix a technical snag in the electricity transformer of the area.
“The village Chokibal Hachmarg comprising around 150 houses has been in complete darkness for the last two months. The Power Development Department has turned a blind eye to the issue,” one of the locals said over phone.
“Two months before, the transformer was damaged. We accordingly informed the concerned authorities but they took several days to lift the damaged transformer. However 10 days before though they had dropped the new transformer but failed to install it,” said another resident.
“We even lodged a complaint with District commissioner Kupwara to look into the matter but nothing has happened till date,” they said, adding they are facing extreme hardships due to non-availability of electricity in their area.
The residents said that the cold has added to their woes. “We were already suffering without electricity and the arrival of the cold has made things worse for us as we are finding it difficult to tackle the challenges,” another local said.
The villagers warned to protest in the District headquarter Kupwara if power was not restored to the village soon.
“We appeal LG Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and ensure that the village gets restoration of power supply soon,” they added.
DC Kupwara Imam Din when contacted said that he is well aware about the matter. “It is already in my knowledge. We have given them transformers several times, but these could not survive. I assure you that we will soon fix the problem,” he said.
However concerned Inspector power department said that they don’t have material available to install the new transfer. (KINS)
