Srinagar, May 16: Urging youth to shun drugs, excessive social media use and other harmful influences, SSP Srinagar Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy on Saturday called on youngsters to actively engage in sports and constructive activities.
Speaking during an inter-college cricket tournament organised by the district administration in Srinagar, Dr. Chakravarthy, said such events provide an important platform for youngsters to channelise their energy positively. “We are very happy to be here at the inter-college cricket tournament organised by the district administration. I would like to thank the district administration, our colleges and the notarial office for starting this wonderful initiative. This is a good platform for our youth to display their energies and channelise them into constructive activities,” he said.
The SSP said sports activities are the need of the hour, especially at a time when various national missions aimed at youth engagement and nation-building are progressing rapidly across the country.
“As we all know, the national mission of Bharat Avyaan is running at a very fast pace in the country. In this season, such cricket tournaments keep our youth busy in positive and constructive activities. And it is the need of the hour,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of youth participation in nation-building, Dr. Chakravarthy said youngsters should spend more time in educational and sporting spaces instead of falling prey to negative distractions.
“Every platform says that our youth is the future of our country. So, they should be busy in libraries and playgrounds. They should stay away from negative influences like social media, mobile phones and drugs,” he said.
He said sports not only encourage fitness and discipline but also help build team spirit, confidence and character among students. “Everybody will play to win. But cricket is such a game where you get a platform to show your team spirit and character,” he said.
The SSP assured participants that Jammu and Kashmir Police and Srinagar Police will continue to support youth-oriented and sports-related initiatives. “JK Police and Srinagar Police are always with them. We are always here to support,” he said.
He further congratulated district administration for organising the event and promoting constructive engagement among youth.
“I would like to congratulate the district administration again for this wonderful initiative,” he added.
Replying to a question regarding the misuse of online platforms for the illegal sale of drugs and medicines, Dr. Chakravarthy said police and the district administration have intensified monitoring and enforcement against such activities.
“You must have seen that the police along with the district administration are checking the online platforms. We already released in the press that a lot of licences have been cancelled. We will be more aggressive in this,” he said.
The SSP said police are carrying out continuous surveillance against those involved in online narcotics networks and warned of strict action against violators.
“It is a strict warning for those who are involved in this. Don’t do this hanky-panky. We will be behind you and we will keep you out of circulation,” he said. (KNO)
