Pak shelling last year snapped power lines along LoC in J&K: NRPC

Srinagar, May 18: The Power Grid has informed the Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC) that heavy shelling from Pakistan in May last year resulted in snapping of conductors and damaged towers in at Uri, Kupwara and other areas along the Line of Control (LoC).
NRPC in a meeting had said that AE (Protection) further apprised that there were multiple tripping due to cross border shelling and firing.
“Power Grid informed that heavy shelling in Uri, Kupwara and other areas along the LoC resulted in snapping of conductors and damage of tower members, also there was restriction in the area which hampered the replacement and restoration work of affected line,” the NRPC said.
The NRPC further said that AE (Protection), informed that ceasefire was announced on 10th May however tripping was also on 13th, 15th and 16th May for 400KV URI 1 – AMARGARH – II line.
“The PowerGrid informed that shelling continued for some days even after the truce was announced. The area was restricted for movement for the sanitation purpose hence restoration was only possible after restrictions were lifted off,” NRPC said.
The Committee informed that PowerGrid has also reported tripping due to galloping of conductor and similar tripping were also reported in previous month which were claimed as deemed under force majeure.
“Power Gird informed that 400KV KISHENPUR- NEW WANPOH-III and IV are restored on ERS after the collapse of multiple towers during heavy rain,” NRPC said adding that “The extent of damage was so high that complete villages were washed out. In present scenario there are frequent cases of land settlement which creates movement of ERS towers and leads to galloping of conductors.” (KNO)
