Srinagar, May 20: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo Wednesday visited Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura and took assessment of healthcare services, patient care facilities and overall medical infrastructure at the premier tertiary care institution.
During the visit, the Minister undertook a comprehensive tour of various departments and wards of the hospital and inspected the quality of healthcare facilities being provided to patients. She assessed the functioning of emergency services, diagnostic units, specialized treatment facilities and patient support systems besides taking stock of the availability of medicines and essential medical equipment.
The Minister also interacted with doctors, healthcare professionals, nursing staff, paramedics and administrative officers regarding the overall functioning of the institution and sought feedback about the existing healthcare delivery mechanism. She appreciated the dedication and commitment of the medical fraternity in providing quality treatment and care to patients despite increasing healthcare demands.
Interacting with patients and their attendants, the Minister enquired about the medical facilities being extended to them and listened to their concerns and suggestions. She assured them that the Government remains committed towards strengthening the healthcare sector and ensuring better patient care facilities across Jammu and Kashmir.
Sakeena Itoo emphasized the need for maintaining high standards of patient care, cleanliness, discipline and timely medical services within the institution. She directed the concerned authorities to ensure prompt redressal of public grievances and further improve healthcare infrastructure for the convenience of patients visiting the hospital from different parts of the Union Territory.
The Minister highlighted that the Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to upgrading healthcare institutions and enhancing accessibility to advanced and affordable medical treatment for the people.
She also stressed upon the importance of coordinated efforts among doctors, administrators and support staff for ensuring efficient functioning of the institution and delivering patient-centric healthcare services.
Director SKIMS, Dr. Ashraf Ganie; Medical Superintendent, SKIMS, Dr. Farooq Jan; Heads of different specialities, senior doctors and other officers also accompanied the Minister during the visit.
