Srinagar, May 30: Sanitation workers on Saturday staged a protest outside the office of Director Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in Bemina, Srinagar, demanding regularization of their services and implementation of SRO-64.
The protest highlighted long-pending concerns of sanitation workers, who said unresolved employment and service-related issues had pushed them to seek immediate intervention from the authorities.
Scores of workers assembled outside the ULB office carrying placards and banners, pressing for fulfillment of their pending demands.
Mushtaq Ahmad, President of Sanitation Workers Association said regularization remained one of their principal demands and urged the administration to take concrete measures to address the issue.
Implementation of SRO-64 also figured prominently during the protest, with workers alleging that delays had prolonged uncertainty regarding their service conditions and entitlements.
Several workers had brought their children to the protest site, where they were seen carrying banners seeking justice and early redressal of the workers’ demands.
The protesters urged the government and concerned authorities to engage with them and resolve the issues at the earliest.
The demonstration remained peaceful as workers continued to voice their demands outside the Director ULB office in Bemina. [KNT]
