Satish Sharma chairs JKRTC board meeting, approves 7th Pay Commission scales for employees

Srinagar, Jun 11: Minister for Transport, Satish Sharma, Thursday chaired the 88th meeting of Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) at Civil Secretariat, here.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Shailendra Kumar; Commissioner Secretary Housing & Urban Development, Mandeep Kaur; Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa, and JKRTC Managing Director A.R. War, along with other board members and officers.
The key decisions of the Board included approval of implementation of 7th Pay Commission scales for JKRTC employees, addressing a long-standing demand, in-principle confirmation of promotions for various officers of the corporation, revised wage structure for Consolidated Drivers of the corporation.
Besides, the Corporation was directed to clear all pending gratuity and pensionary claims of retirees. It was also directed that Corporation will formulate a firm welfare policy for the next of kin of employees who die in harness.
The Board reviewed and confirmed the minutes of the previous meeting and examined the action taken report. A detailed assessment of JKRTC’s physical and financial performance was conducted, with a focus on operational efficiency, revenue generation, and expansion of public transport services across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Board also deliberated on the proposed budget for 2026–27 and discussed asset monetization, revenue enhancement, and resource optimization. Also, progress on the procurement of 200 new e-buses under the PM e-Drive Scheme was reviewed, along with the disposal of auctioned vehicles.
During the meeting Satish Sharma underscored the critical role of JKRTC in delivering affordable, reliable and efficient transport services. He called for a result-oriented approach to transform the corporation into a modern, financially sustainable, and passenger-friendly entity.
“Innovation, transparency and accountability must guide all policy decisions, with public convenience at the core,” Sharma said. He directed the officers to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for modernizing transport infrastructure, enhancing passenger amenities, and adopting digital technologies to improve efficiency and customer experience.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthen the public transport, Sharma stated that JKRTC would receive all necessary support to emerge as a vibrant, self-sustaining organization capable of meeting the growing mobility needs of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
