IGP chairs high-level security review meeting

Srinagar, Jun 12: IGP Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi chaired a comprehensive security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2026), Muharram processions, and Mela Kheer Bhawani.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from J&K Police, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, SSB, Intelligence agencies, Traffic, Railways, and Telecommunication departments. Key attendees included IG BSF Ftr Hqrs Kashmir, IG CRPF KOS, IG CRPF Srinagar, IG ITBP, Addl Commissioner SB Srinagar, DIG IR Kashmir, all range DIGs of Kashmir Zone, and district SSPs, among others.
During the meeting, officials briefed the chair on deployment strategies, route security, intelligence coordination, traffic regulation, communication preparedness, and emergency response mechanisms.
Reviewing SANJY-2026 arrangements, IGP Birdi directed strict adherence to SOPs and emphasised preventive measures, particularly at vulnerable locations and along designated pilgrimage routes. He also reviewed contingency planning, disaster response, and crowd management protocols.
For Muharram, the IGP stressed peaceful conduct of all religious processions, directing comprehensive security and traffic arrangements along procession routes and close liaison with organisers and community representatives.
Regarding Mela Kheer Bhawani, Birdi called for robust security and facilitation measures, including thorough sanitisation of the shrine premises and adequate deployment to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience for devotees.
Concluding the meeting, IGP Kashmir expressed confidence in the collective preparedness of all agencies and reiterated the security establishment’s commitment to the peaceful and successful conduct of all three major events. (KNS)
