GMC Anantnag lacks dedicated burn ward

Anantnag, Jun 16: The absence of a dedicated burn ward at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has emerged as a major concern, with burn injury patients reportedly being treated in corridors and general wards due to lack of a specialized facility.
Attendants of patients undergoing treatment for burn injuries said the hospital does not have a separate unit equipped to cater to the specific needs of such patients. They maintained that burn victims require a hygienic and isolated environment to minimize the risk of infections and ensure proper medical care.
The situation has triggered concern among patients and their families, who have urged the authorities to establish a dedicated burn ward at the earliest in view of the increasing number of patients requiring specialized treatment.
Responding to the concerns, Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag, Dr Bilal Mushraf, acknowledged the shortage and attributed it to space constraints within the existing hospital infrastructure.
“We do not have a separate ward for burn injuries at present because of space limitations. Once the new building is completed, a dedicated burn ward will be established for such patients,” Dr Mushraf said.
GMC Anantnag caters to a large population from across south Kashmir and serves as one of the region’s major healthcare institutions. However, the lack of a dedicated burn unit continues to pose challenges for patients requiring specialized treatment and post-burn care.
Patients and attendants have appealed to the health authorities to expedite the creation of a dedicated burn facility to ensure better treatment and care for burn injury victims. [KNT]
