Bandipora, Jun 17: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said National Conference MPs won’t support the NDA government at the Centre, amid reports of some Opposition MPs – including those from the Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) – allegedly backing the BJP-led government.
Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of a review meeting in Bandipora, CM Omar, said he could not comment on the reasons behind their shift in support.
“Neither I, nor you can answer this question. By sitting in Bandipora how can I say what will DMK or Shiv Sena MPs do? It is up to them. It is up to their conscience. They will go as far as their conscience allows them to go,” he said.
He said, “As far as National Conference MPs are concerned, we will never support such a move”.
Commenting about the review meeting in Bandipora, he said his government would address the developmental concerns raised by public representatives and make every possible effort to resolve pending issues in the district.
Omar Abdullah, accompanied by advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary, cabinet ministers and senior officials, chaired a review meeting in Bandipora to assess the implementation of development programmes and examine the status of various projects across the district.
The chief minister said he reviewed the performance of works undertaken under last year’s development plan and identified areas requiring attention.
He said legislators representing Bandipora, Sonawari and Gurez highlighted local issues and demands during the meeting and sought intervention in sectors requiring improvement.
“The concerns and expectations of the people were conveyed by their representatives. We have assured them that whatever is possible from our side will be done,” he said.
Among the issues discussed was the upgradation of district hospital Bandipora, which has been functioning from a new building for several years but is yet to be formally upgraded.
CM Omar said the matter was taken up during the review and added that Health Minister Sakeena Itoo, who joined the meeting virtually, assured that pending requirements related to the facility would be addressed by her department. (KNO)
