NIA chargesheets three more accused in Red Fort blast case

New Delhi, Jun 27: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a supplementary chargesheet against three more accused, including an absconding suspect, in connection with the November 2025 vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed 11 lives.
With the latest supplementary chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court at Patiala House Courts, the total number of persons chargesheeted in the case has risen to 13, including the deceased prime accused, Dr. Umer Un Nabi.
The three accused named in the supplementary chargesheet are Zameer Ahmad Ahanger, Tufail Ahmad Bhat and absconding accused Muzafar Ahmad alias Faraz alias Zafar, all residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the NIA, Muzafar Ahmad, a pediatrician by profession, has been identified during the investigation as one of the principal conspirators in the case. The agency alleged that he was a founding member of “AGuH Interim”, which it described as an offshoot of Al-Qaeda, and was involved in the planning, manufacture, testing and concealment of TATP-based improvised explosive devices at a clandestine facility allegedly operated from Al-Falah University in Faridabad.
The investigating agency further alleged that Muzafar attended a secret meeting held in Srinagar in June 2022 during which the alleged terror module was constituted. A non-bailable warrant has been issued against him, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
The NIA also alleged that Zameer Ahmad Ahanger functioned as an overground worker of the alleged module and acted as a courier for arms, ammunition and funds.
Tufail Ahmad Bhat has been accused of procuring and supplying arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, a Krinkov rifle, a pistol, magazines and live ammunition, allegedly through dead-drop networks before delivering them to the deceased prime accused.
According to the agency, Zameer and Tufail have been charged under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while additional provisions of the Explosive Substances Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act have been invoked against the absconding accused, Muzafar Ahmad.
The NIA said the investigation has relied on forensic examination, geo-location analysis and financial trail mapping to establish links among the accused and added that further investigation into the case is continuing. [KNT]
