New Delhi, Jun 30: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Tuesday approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Amit Kumar as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Special Protection Group (SPG) and extended the tenure of Ravi Agrawal as Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
According to orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Amit Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre and currently serving as Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been appointed as OSD in the SPG with immediate effect from the date he assumes charge.
The appointment has been made by temporarily upgrading a vacant SPG post to Level-16. Kumar will take over as Director, SPG, after the completion of the tenure of the incumbent Director Alok Sharma on March 31, 2027.
In a separate order, the ACC approved the reappointment of Ravi Agrawal as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on a contractual basis for six months, from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The DoPT said Agrawal’s reappointment will be governed by the standard terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central Government officers under the relevant recruitment rules.
The appointments are aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership at two key institutions responsible for national security and direct tax administration. (KINS)
