Srinagar, Jul 7: Ahead of its protest programme on statehood in New Delhi, the ruling National Conference on Tuesday reached out to the civil society of Kashmir.
To seek suggestions from different sections of civil society ahead of the protest programme on statehood, NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, presided over a meeting convened by the party with people from different sections of society.
“More than 150 representatives from various sections of J&K civil society convened today, July 7, 2026, at SKICC, Srinagar, in a meeting presided over by JKNC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and VP & Hon’ble Chief Minister @Omar Abdullah,” the NC said in a post on its X handle.
The party said the gathering unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon the Union Government to restore full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir without any further delay.
“The resolution reflects the collective and unanimous voice of the civil society representatives present at the meeting, reaffirming the broad-based demand for the immediate restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir,” it said.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister said that a unanimous resolution calling on the Union Government to restore full statehood was passed.
“Thankful to all the representatives of civil society of Kashmir who accepted the invitation. The meeting was extremely productive and Dr Sahib was able to get a lot of useful feedback and good suggestions. The meeting passed a unanimous resolution calling on the Union Government to fulfil its promise and restore FULL statehood to J&K without further delay,” Omar posted on his X account. (KNO)
