Anantnag, Aug 15: Government Medical College Anantnag has restricted the entry and movement of medical representatives in OPDs, wards and casualty areas of the institution and its associated hospitals during duty hours.
The restriction order followed reports that medical representatives were freely moving inside these areas and, in some instances, checking patients’ prescriptions.
The college administration said such practices could interfere with patient care, hospital discipline and the smooth functioning of clinical services.
Under the order, medical representatives have been barred from entering or approaching doctors or patients in OPDs, wards or casualty areas for promotional or professional purposes during duty hours.
They may meet doctors concerned only after duty hours, provided such meetings do not disturb patient care or hospital functioning.
The administration has directed heads of departments, faculty members, consultants, resident doctors, outsourced security staff and other concerned officials to ensure compliance with the restrictions.
The order states that any violation of the instructions will be viewed seriously and may invite disciplinary action under the relevant rules.
The administration has also directed the Medical Superintendent of MMABM Associated Hospital to put in place a proper mechanism for monitoring compliance through the respective Chief Medical Officers on duty.
The police post at Janglat Mandi, Anantnag, has also been asked to maintain vigilance and report any violation of the restrictions.
The order was issued by the Principal, Government Medical College Anantnag, with copies circulated to the Health and Medical Education Department, heads of departments, associated hospitals and other concerned authorities. [KNT]
