Shopian, Aug 20: Emphasising the vital role of youth in building a healthy and drug-free society, Principal District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Shopian, Neetu Gandotra, inaugurated a drug awareness programme at DIET Shopian and delivered a powerful presidential address, urging students to make responsible choices and firmly say no to drugs.
In her address, Gandotra said that a strong and drug-free society can only be built when the younger generation understands the value of life, education and responsible choices. She cautioned students about the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, families and society, and called upon them to become ambassadors of the drug-free movement.
The programme was organised with the objective of sensitising students about the harmful effects of substance abuse and motivating them to adopt a healthy, productive and responsible lifestyle.
Students from Government Girls Higher Secondary School Shopian and Government Boys Higher Secondary School Shopian participated enthusiastically in the programme. The students took part as speakers and shared their views on the dangers of drug addiction, the importance of prevention and the collective responsibility of society in combating the menace of drugs.
Addressing the gathering, Principal DIET Shopian highlighted that education, self-confidence, strong family values and positive friendships can play a decisive role in protecting young people from substance abuse. She encouraged students to focus on their studies, talents and future aspirations instead of falling prey to harmful influences.
The programme focused on four key pillars including Awareness, Prevention, Support and Recovery and encouraged students to recognise the warning signs and risks associated with substance abuse, seek timely assistance and extend support to those struggling with addiction.
The active participation of students from both girls’ and boys’ higher secondary schools added significance to the event, with the young participants conveying a strong and united message against drug abuse and in favour of a healthy and drug-free future.
The initiative reflects the continued efforts of DIET Shopian to create awareness among the younger generation and strengthen the collective fight against drug abuse under the broader Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir campaign.
The programme concluded with a call to students to remain committed to the message of (Say No to Drugs) and work as responsible citizens towards creating a safer healthier and drug-free society.
